Palin endorses candidate in SC gov race
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is endorsing the only female candidate in South Carolina’s gubernatorial race who is also popular with tea party activists.
Palin spokesman Jason Recher (RECK’-er) said Palin is visiting the state on Friday to campaign for Republican state Rep. Nikki Haley. Palin is also popular with tea party activists, which are central to Haley’s campaign.
Her endorsement also bypasses Attorney General Henry McMaster who is also running. He spearheaded Arizona Sen. John McCain’s 2008 presidential primary campaign in the state. Palin was McCain’s running mate.
Haley badly trails her three Republican rivals in cash for the race. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney also has endorsed Haley.
