Poll shows Blunt leading Carnahan for Mo. Senate

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — A new poll shows Republican Rep. Roy Blunt leading Democratic Secretary of State Robin Carnahan in Missouri’s U.S. Senate race.

In the poll released Wednesday by CNN/Time/Opinion Research Corp., 53 percent of likely voters supported Blunt compared with 40 percent for Carnahan. It surveyed 832 likely voters by phone between Friday and Tuesday and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage point.

Among a larger sample of registered voters, 50 percent backed Blunt and 39 percent Carnahan.

They are the leading contenders in the Nov. 2 election to replace retiring Republican Sen. Kit Bond.

The survey also asked people about President Barack Obama’s job performance. Of likely voters, 61 percent disapproved. Of registered voters, 55 percent disapproved.
