Rod Blagojevich Trial Verdict Reveals Split Jury

CHICAGO (GaeaTimes.com)- The controversial trial of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich yielded a frustrating verdict for the prosecutors as the jury found him guilty on just 1 of the 24 counts. He was found guilty of making false statements to the FBI, a charge that can be called minuscule in comparison of the other charges that included auctioning a senate seat, bribery, mail fraud, conspiracy and attempt to extortion and even racketeering.

One of the jurors revealed to the media that the jury was hung at 11-1 against the flamboyant former Governor and they could not convince the one juror to vote against him. The frustrated prosecutors have promised to get a retrial against Rod Blagojevich after the verdict. One of the jurors also went on to say that the people of the state did not get justice in the trial. Rod Blagojevich also vowed to appeal against the conviction in front of the cheering crowd outside the courtroom and said that he did not do anything wrong or illegal and the one conviction was based on a ‘nebulous’ conversation that he had had 5 years ago. He said that was being persecuted by the opposition.

Jury foreman James Matsumoto has refuted the claims that the jury was hung on just one juror but said that he knew from the very start that it will be hard for the jury to come to a unanimous decision. Rod Blagojevich thanked the jurors after the trial. His brother and co-defendant Robert Blagojevich said that the verdict reflected the truth that Rod Blagojevich was an innocent target of the federal government.
