Ark. GOP Senate pick: Dem. Lincoln is out of touch

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Republican Congressman John Boozman says Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln is too closely allied with the Obama administration and out of touch with Arkansas voters to retain her seat in November’s election.

Boozman’s comments to The Associated Press on Wednesday came a day after Lincoln fended off a challenge from the left of her own party in the state’s Democratic primary runoff.

Boozman says President Barack Obama’s endorsement of Lincoln in that race will work against her in the general election. He says he thinks the two-term senator’s support of the federal health care overhaul will hurt her chances in November.

Lincoln is a moderate Democrat who has distanced herself from Obama and the party on labor issues, health care and other legislation.
