Clinton stumps for Blumenthal in Conn. Senate race
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Former President Bill Clinton has urged Democrats in Connecticut to support U.S. Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal and persuade their neighbors not to give in to their anger toward the economy and incumbents.
Blumenthal is a Yale Law School classmate and friend of Clinton. He’s in a tight race against Republican Linda McMahon, a former wrestling executive who has pledged to spend as much as $50 million of her own money to win the office.
A recent poll shows McMahon has shrunk Blumenthal’s lead to 6 percentage points.
Clinton didn’t mention Blumenthal’s well-known rival during his address at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven.
Blumenthal has been attorney general for nearly 20 years. He’s stepping down to seek the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Christopher Dodd.
