LANCING (GaeaTimes.com)- Come this fall, the Democrats will have the Lancing Mayor Virg Bernero battling to get hold of the seat of the Governor of Michigan that has been held by the party for the last two terms. Virg Bernero, who is dubbed as the “Angriest Mayor” for his strong support for the federal bailouts to Chrysler and General Motors, won the Democratic support after acquiring 59% votes in his favor against the 41% that went in favor of House Speaker Andy Dillon.

Virg Bernero banked on the party’s traditional base to oust Andy Dillon. He was able to manage the support of the organized labor unions and also of the abortion-rights supporters. The win of Virg Bernero over the House Speaker has once again brought to the fore front the power of organized labor. As per reports, organized labor supported him in his campaign with an estimated $2 million for a television campaign. Some media sources claim that Virg Bernero lost many Republican votes due to his support for the embryonic stem cell research that goes against the traditional party norms.

The tough task however lies ahead as there are hardly few months left before the November election. Virg Bernero will now have to prove himself as a worthy successor to Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm. He had to make his plans more worthy than that of Republican nominee Rick Snyder who has already been able to gather a huge fan base for his promises on the issue of unemployment. Virg Bernero on Tuesday suggested that the general election result will depend on the ability of his and Rick Snyder to attract voters of the Rival party and the independent once towards them.
