Israel PM briefs Egyptian leader on peace plans
JERUSALEM — Israel’s prime minister says he has briefed the Egyptian president on plans to resume Mideast peace talks in the coming days.
A statement by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave few details about his 90-minute meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
But he says the talks on Monday were constructive and took place in a good atmosphere.
Netanyahu flew to Egypt to update Mubarak on preparations for the beginning of indirect U.S.-brokered peace talks with the Palestinians.
U.S. envoy George Mitchell was expected to arrive in the region later Monday to put the final touches on the preparations. The talks would be the first in more than a year.
