Tymoshenko to make statement on presidential vote

KIEV, Ukraine — A spokeswoman for defeated Ukrainian presidential candidate Yulia Tymoshenko says she is ending her six-day silence on the vote results, which she has yet to concede.

Prime Minister Tymoshenko is expected to call for a review of how the election was conducted after preliminary results show she lost by just 3.5 percentage points to opposition leader Viktor Yanukovych.

Aide Natalya Lisova gave no details except to say Tymoshenko would appear live on television Saturday night to comment on the Feb. 7 vote.

International observers have described the election as free and fair, hurting Tymoshenko’s chances of mounting a successful court challenge to the results.
