Capito plans to attend Copenhagen climate summit
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia’s sole Republican in Congress expects to represent the state and its mining industry at the United Nations climate change conference in Copenhagen.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has included Rep. Shelley Moore Capito in a bipartisan congressional delegation that plans to travel to the international summit next week.
Capito is on the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. She has said that she believes climate change exists. She has also questioned the role played by human activity, and the need for immediate action.
With West Virginia’s two other House members, Capito has also opposed legislation supported by the Obama administration that targets sources of greenhouse gases. Those include coal when it is burned.
