TALLAHASSEE (GaeaTimes.com)- There is no doubt about the fact that the Republican this fall want to see some new faces of the party against the Democrats for the Governor’s seat. After Rick Snyder from Michigan, the Republicans on Tuesday went on to extend their support for yet another newcomer, Rick Scott, a health care executive by profession. Rick Scott, who had reportedly spent around $39 million from his personal account for the primary, was able to defeat state attorney general Bill McCollum and a third GOP candidate Mike McCalister. On Tuesday night with 97 percent of precincts reporting, Rick Scott had 46 percent votes in his favor while Bill McCollum gathered 43 percent. Around 10 percent votes went in favor of Mike McCalister. Rick Scott was able to maintain the lead whole through the night.
A well known face in the business circle, Rick Scott was able to make a strong impression in the hearts of Republicans by criticizing vehemently the President health care law and also by projecting himself as a conservative outsider. However, the Florida GOP primary campaign was termed ugly by many critics as Bill McCollum went on to scrutinize the $1.7 billion settlement that Rick Scott’s former company went for to settle federal Medicare fraud charges. Rick Scott too carried out negative campaign by hammering Bill McCollum with a series of attack advertisements. Many have voiced after the Tuesday result that Mike McCalister gained votes from those Republicans who were disgusted with the two others.
However, after Tuesday night’s victory, Rick Scott told to the 150 gathered Republicans in Fort Lauderdale that the people of the people of Florida “have spoken and I’ve liked what they said”. The GOP candidate, Rick Scott will face Florida’s chief financial officer, Alex Sink.
