Colo. candidate sells home to finance Senate bid

DENVER — Colorado Democrat Andrew Romanoff’s campaign says the U.S. Senate candidate has sold his house and is loaning the campaign $325,000 in his effort to unseat Democratic incumbent Michael Bennet.

Romanoff’s plan to use the proceeds from the sale of his Denver home comes as the Aug. 10 primary looms and he lags well behind Bennet’s $7.5 million fundraising total.

Campaign spokesman Roy Teicher says Romanoff’s decision shows the campaign believes victory is in sight.

Romanoff says he’s leasing the house back for the time being because he doesn’t have time to move.

He says the house sold for $360,000. He put $325,000 into the campaign in four installments after paying off the remaining mortgage and cashing out other savings.

Romanoff reported having $464,000 in cash June 30, and Bennet reported $2.6 million.
