Pelosi: Too late to start over on health overhaul
WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says it’s too late to start over on President Barack Obama’s proposed health care overhaul.
Obama was meeting with congressional leaders all day Thursday to discuss the stalled health care overhaul. Before Pelosi spoke, Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander said on behalf of his Republican Party that lawmakers should scrap the health care bill Senate Democrats passed on Christmas Eve and start from scratch.
Pelosi says that is not an option and her fellow Democrats are committed to a health care overhaul that is relevant to Americans’ lives. She says many pieces of the health proposal came from Republicans and deserve their support.
