Son: Iran closes office of late dissident cleric

TEHRAN, Iran — The son of a renowned Iranian dissident cleric says authorities shut down his late father’s office after it was stormed by hard-liners.

Ahmad Montazeri says the office of Hossein Ali Montazeri in the holy city of Qom was sealed on Monday.

The son says hard-liners earlier on Monday morning stormed the place. He says no one was hurt but there was damage to property.

He says the raid came just a day after opposition leader Mahdi Karroubi visited the adjoining office belonging to Ayatollah Yosef Sanei on Sunday.

The late ayatollah was a sharp critic of Iran’s leadership. His death in December, at the age of 87, drew tens of thousands to march in his funeral procession that turned into an anti-government protest.
