Obama, Medvedev back nuclear disarmament effort
PARIS — President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev have offered support for an international group trying to rid the world of nuclear weapons.
Obama, in a written message to the Global Zero conference in Paris, says disarmament is “one of my highest priorities.” Medvedev calls it a priority in a message.
Both governments have stalled in talks toward renewing an arms control treaty aimed at reducing their arsenals.
The Global Zero conference of political leaders opened Tuesday amid concerns about the START treaty and Iran’s nuclear program.
