VP Joe Biden attends NM fundraising event
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Vice President Joe Biden spoke briefly Thursday at a Democratic gubernatorial candidate’s fundraiser in Albuquerque, N.M.
KRQE-TV reports the $1,500-a-head event benefited Diane Denish’s campaign. Denish faces Republican Susana Martinez in a race to determine who will become New Mexico’s first female governor.
Denish has served as lieutenant governor since 2003 and was Gov. Bill Richardson’s running mate in 2002 and 2006. Martinez is a district attorney who has drawn attention for her tough stance on illegal immigration.
Denish trailed Martinez in a recent Albuquerque Journal poll.
Biden’s visit isn’t the only high-profile help Denish is getting in the home stretch of her campaign. Former President Bill Clinton will stump for her at a rally next month.
