Nixon grandson in GOP bid for NY House seat

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — The grandson of President Richard Nixon is among seven Republicans seeking the nomination to challenge an incumbent Democratic congressman on Long Island.

Christopher Cox, the 30-year-old son of state party chairman Ed Cox and Nixon’s grandson, is just one GOP member who has expressed interest in the seat held by Rep. Timothy Bishop.

Bishop has had relatively little trouble winning re-election three times.

But with anti-incumbent sentiment percolating coast to coast, Bishop might be perceived as a vulnerable Democrat in the November election.

But before they can take aim at Bishop, Republicans will first have to settle a simmering squabble among themselves; a primary fight for the nomination appears likely. A decision by the county GOP on its nominee is expected this month.
