Obama starts Fla. trip with stop at Air Force base
MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — President Barack Obama is launching a quick jobs-focused trip to Florida with a tour of an Air Force facility that’s helping with the relief mission in Haiti.
Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were meeting with crew members at a maintenance hangar at MacDill Air Force Base, headquarters of the U.S. Central Command.
The crew works on an air tanker that refuels other planes being used on aid missions to help Haiti recover from a devastating earthquake.
Obama was in Tampa Thursday to follow up his State of the Union address with an announcement of $8 billion in grants for high-speed rail projects. He was to talk about the economy and hold a town hall-style meeting at the University of Tampa.
Biden arrived in Florida separately.
