Heckling lawmaker says no more outbursts Wednesday
WASHINGTON — The South Carolina congressman who called Barack Obama a liar during the president’s last speech before Congress says he’ll be on his best behavior for Wednesday’s State of the Union address.
Republican Joe Wilson says he’s been getting plenty of ribbing from his family and colleagues leading up to Obama’s big speech. In an interview with The Associated Press, he reiterated that he never planned to shout “You lie!” at the president last September but that emotions got the best of him.
Wilson said there won’t be another outburst. But he says he’s happy that voters in recent elections have signaled that they share his concerns about health care legislation.
Wilson says his natural inclination is to be on his best behavior.
