NYC mayor: 3rd term a ’special opportunity’
NEW YORK — New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is striking a humble tone on the first day of his third term.
Bloomberg said Friday he understands his third term is a “special opportunity.” He promised to listen and lead in the next four years.
He was initially barred from running for a third term but got that law changed. Many voters were not happy about the way he did it. He won by a narrow margin.
Bloomberg also promised a management shake-up like those he oversaw at his financial information company, Bloomberg LP.
He says deputy commissioners will work briefly in other city agencies to generate fresh ideas.
Bloomberg and the city’s comptroller and public advocate took oaths of office Friday.
