Pakistan: Suicide bomber kills provincial lawmaker

ISLAMABAD — Pakistani officials say a suicide bomber has killed an anti-Taliban provincial lawmaker as he was receiving guests at his house in Swat Valley.

Tuesday’s attack comes months after a military push into the northwestern territory that was declared a success. The situation has been relatively peaceful since the offensive but sporadic violence continues, underscoring the difficulties the army faces.

Swat Valley police chief Qazi Farooq and hospital officials say lawmaker Shamsher Khan was killed when the attacker struck the reception room at his house in Deri Kili in Kanju area.
