Obama to speak on education, present rights award

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama will speak about several government initiatives to raise the level of education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Later Monday, the president’s schedule includes meetings with Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and the entire Cabinet.

The president then presents the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award to founders of the human rights organization Women of Zimbabwe Arise, in a White House ceremony. The first lady will also attend.

The group has been challenging the regime of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe since its formation in 2002.
