PM to open chief ministers meet on internal security Tuesday

NEW DELHI - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will Tuesday inaugurate a conference of chief ministers to discuss internal security, with special focus on the Maoist violence.

Home Minister P. Chidambaram, Defence Minister A.K. Antony, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Ministers of State for Home Gurudas Kamat and Mullappally Ramachandran are scheduled to attend the various sessions of the day-long meet, an official statement said.

There will be a special session on ‘Left wing extremism’, the release said.

Other major topics of discussion include border management, coastal security, police reforms, economic offences and counter-terrorism.

The internal security meet will also discuss the filling of the sanctioned strength of the police forces, strengthening of the intelligence wing and implementation of the crime and criminal tracking network and systems, the release said.

The conference would also review the action taken on the recommendations of the last chief ministers’ meet Feb 7 last year, it added.
