SYDNEY (GaeaTimes.com) — The deadlock in forming the new government in Austrailia is finally over. After 17 days of suspense Labor Party’s candidate Julia Gillard is now the winner of the elections. But at the same time doubts are being raised regarding the stability of the newly formed government as she won the race to the capital by a whisker.

The federal elections held last month produced a hung parliament with neither Julia nor the Conservative coalition’s Tony Abbott managed to raise votes enough to form the Government. After successful negotiations with 4 of 5 of the independent MPs Julia can now command a 76 seats of the 150 odd lower house. Australia’s first lady Prime Minister will have tread her steps cautiously in order to sustain her new found title. The terms of the makeshift agreement is based on the MP’s support for the finance bills and no-confidence motions. That definitely makes passing legislature quite an uphill challenge. Julia Gillard made the following statement

[Her Government was] prepared to deliver stable, effective and secure government for the next three years

Her claims at the moment is standing on very flimsy grounds. As it stand s now even if two of the independent MPs decide to support Abbott the Australia will have a new majority in the parliament and that too without an election.
