Israeli Arab members of parliament visit Libya
JERUSALEM — A group of lawmakers from Israel’s Arab minority are in Tripoli to meet Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.
Barhoum Zaraysa, a spokesman for lawmaker Mohammed Barakeh, said Saturday the six Israeli Arab members of parliament arrived in Tripoli via Amman on Saturday.
Libya and Israel are bitter enemies with no diplomatic ties.
An official at the Libyan Foreign Ministry said the group would meet Gadhafi on Sunday. Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said this is the first time Israeli lawmakers are visiting Libya.
Arab citizens make up about 20 percent of Israel’s 7.5 million people. They enjoy full rights but complain of discrimination.
