Court-martial of soldier in Iraq deaths postponed
FORT STEWART, Ga. — The court-martial of an Army soldier charged with the 2008 killings of a superior and a fellow soldier in Iraq has been postponed until next year.
Sgt. Joseph Bozicevich (BOZ-eh-vich) had been scheduled to stand trial in June. But a military judge on Tuesday granted a request by defense lawyers to postpone his court-martial until February.
Bozicevich, of Minneapolis, could face the death penalty if convicted of murder in the September 2008 slayings of Staff Sgt. Darris Dawson and Sgt. Wesley Durbin at a patrol base in Iraq. Bozicevich is being held near Fort Stewart, where he served in the 3rd Infantry Division.
Witnesses have said Bozicevich shot the two soldiers after they tried to counsel him for poor performance.
