Court records detail NY gov aide’s domestic case

NEW YORK — A woman who said a top adviser to New York Gov. David Paterson assaulted her was pressing her case in a Bronx family court before she suddenly abandoned it.

Family court records obtained by The Associated Press show Sherruna (shehr-OO’-nuh) Booker appeared at three hearings after telling New York City police that boyfriend David Johnson choked her.

Booker said in November state police had contacted her and pressured her not to press charges against Johnson.

The case was dropped after Booker missed a hearing this month. The New York Times reports Booker dropped the case after receiving a call from the governor.

The governor’s office says she called him.

Paterson has resisted calls to drop his campaign for a four-year term. Johnson has been suspended and hasn’t spoken publicly.

State police say they won’t comment on the case.
