Mass. ex-gov: Grudge led to Ky. college bankruptcy
BOSTON — An attorney for former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld says a federal education official bearing a grudge triggered the 2005 bankruptcy of a Kentucky vocational college Weld headed.
Former White House counsel Lanny Davis is representing Weld. He says Education Department official Ralph LoBosco was angry with Weld for shutting down his employer in the 1980s while Weld was a federal prosecutor.
The attorney’s comments to The Associated Press come as the bankruptcy trustee for the college filed a lawsuit Tuesday against an Atlanta-based accreditation agency. Decker College in Louisville says the agency withdrew its stamp of approval after pressure from LoBosco.
Davis says he plans to ask Congress and the Education Department’s inspector general to investigate LoBosco. LoBosco and the Education Department had no immediate comment.
