Sen. Kerry’s daughter arrested in LA on DUI
LOS ANGELES — The daughter of Sen. John Kerry was arrested Thursday in Hollywood for allegedly driving drunk.
Alexandra Kerry, 36, was stopped by officers at about 12:40 a.m. and booked at the Hollywood police station for investigation of driving under the influence, Officer April Harding said.
She was held for about five hours and released at about 5:30 a.m. after posting $5,000 bail, Harding said.
She had no other details.
Jodi Seth, John Kerry’s spokeswoman, said the senator’s daughter was pulled over for an expired registration and was released after a breathalyzer test showed her blood-alcohol level was under the legal limit.
“Sen. Kerry supports his daughter and will have no further comment on a private matter,” Seth said in a statement.
Harding said she did not know whether Alexandra Kerry had tested for a blood-alcohol level above the legal driving limit of .08.
However, a driver with a lower blood-alcohol level still can be arrested on suspicion of DUI if they were driving recklessly or officers considered them to be a danger, Harding said.
Alexandra Kerry is the eldest daughter of the Massachusetts senator, the Democrats’ 2004 presidential nominee.
She has produced documentaries and has had several small acting roles.
