PM lookalike grabs eyeballs at Congress meet

NEW DELHI - Wearing Manmohan Singh’s trademark white kurta-pyjama and sky blue turban, Gurmeet Singh looked very much like the prime minister and attracted quite a bit of attention at the Congress plenary session here Sunday.

As many looked at him with utmost amusement, the 64-year-old enjoyed the limelight at the party’s 83rd plenary at Burari in northwest Delhi. He confused many security guards and other party members.

An All India Congress Committee (AICC) member, Gurmit Singh told IANS: “Wherever I go, people get confused with my looks, mostly the security people are confused. But I’m happy to look like the prime minister.”

Recalling an incident, he said: “When I went to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) when he underwent bypass surgery, the hospital staff and security guards were taken by surprise.”

He added that even the prime minister was amused looking at him.

As Gurmeet Singh was speaking, ministers from states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and other party workers asked him to pose for photographs with them.
