Specter’s Dem foe: Pa. senator is ‘desperate’
PITTSBURGH — Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter’s Democratic primary challenger says the five-term incumbent’s comments about him reflect a “desperate” candidate.
U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak appeared at a rally in Pittsburgh on Saturday. He repeated his claim that Specter switched parties to save his job and says Specter’s demand that Sestak release his military records is an attempt to “Swift-Boat” a veteran — a reference to attacks on Sen. John Kerry’s Vietnam War record during the 2004 presidential campaign.
Specter renewed his criticism of the second-term congressman at a campaign event in Philadelphia, He accused the retired vice admiral of trying to mislead voters his party switch and unfairly concealing his Navy record.
The candidates are battling fiercely for the Democratic nomination in Tuesday’s primary election.
