BHUBANESWAR - Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Friday termed the budget for 2010-11 “disappointing” in many ways for the people of the state.

“First of all, against the backdrop of soaring food prices, there is no mention whatsoever about the much promised scheme of delivery of rice and wheat to the ‘aam aadmi’ at Rs.3 per kg,” he said.

“Secondly, hike in the price of diesel and petrol is expected to further fuel the inflationary trends in the economy. This measure is likely to have cascading effect on the prices of all other commodities,” Patnaik added.

“Thirdly, while the budget proposals contain special development packages for some states like Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh, disappointingly no such development package has been announced for the poorer and backward regions of Orissa,” he said, adding this was why he was “disappointed”.
