Obama thanks Bayh for decades of public service

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says he and first lady Michelle Obama wish Sen. Evan Bayh (BY) all the best in the future.

The Indiana Democrat announced Monday in Indianapolis that he will not be a candidate for re-election in November. Bayh said simply that he does not love Congress and he cited a desire to contribute to society in some other way.

Obama issued a statement saying that for more than two decades Bayh has fought tirelessly for Indiana’s working families on issues such as creating jobs, growing the economy, fiscal responsibility and national security.

Obama said he looks forward to continuing to work on “these critical challenges” with Bayh during the rest of his term.
