BHUBANESWAR - Hundreds of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) activists Saturday staged a protest against the railways for neglecting the Oriya language during the flagging-off ceremony of a new train from Orissa’s steel city Rourkela, police said.

Oriya is Orissa’s official language and the protestors alleged that the railway authorities printed the invitation cards of the function in Bengali, Hindi and English.

Carrying party flags and banners, the activists shouted slogans during the flagging off of the Rourkela-Bhubaneswar intercity express at the Rourkela railway station.

The activists also snapped the video connection and prevented Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee from flagging off the train through video-conferencing, police said.
