Union sponsors W.Va. rally against Verizon sale
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Communications Workers of America union is urging people opposed to Frontier Communications Corp.’s plan to buy Verizon’s wire line business to attend a Sunday rally in West Virginia’s capital.
The West Virginia Public Service Commission is scheduled to conduct hearings next week on the proposed sale, which would affect millions of customers in West Virginia and 13 other states.
The Public Service Commission’s staff and Consumer Advocate Division has recommended rejecting the proposal. The U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission and three other states have supported it.
Sunday’s rally begins at 2 p.m. inside the Culture Center in Charleston.
