ND Gov. Hoeven annoyed by EPA ethanol delay

BISMARCK, N.D. — North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven says he’s disappointed the federal Environmental Protection Agency is delaying a decision on raising the ethanol content of fuel.

The agency says more testing is needed on the impact of raising the maximum ethanol content of gasoline from 10 percent to 15 percent. The testing is to see how the change affects engine performance. The EPA says it isn’t likely to make a decision before June.

Hoeven says the EPA has been studying the move for more than a year. He says raising the allowable ethanol content of gasoline will increase demand for alternative fuels and help North Dakota producers.

Hoeven says it appears the EPA will eventually endorse the change, but he says the new rules need to come soon, and they need to be easy for consumers and fuel dealers to understand.

E15 will void the warranty of every outboard motor currently sold in the US.

The use of E10 has destroyed 1000’s of outboard motors in the southeastern US and cost US boaters millions of dollars in needless repairs; ethanol + gasoline = water in fuel tanks. Why don’t you Midwest folks use all the E15, E40 or E100 you want. Please stop trying to get the feds to force this inferior fuel down our fuel tanks. Ethanol fuel “enriched” fuels simply won’t work in high humid, high temperature environments with open fuel systems.
