Egyptian protesters find support among Yemenis

Sanaa, Jan 30 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Dozens of people took to the streets in Yemen in support of the Egyptians’ protest against their President Hosni Mubarak and also raised slogans against their country’s president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The demonstrators, including opposition politicians and journalists, marched towards the Egyptian embassy in Sanaa Saturday, RIA Novosti quoted media reports Sunday.
CNN said some 100 people took part in the demonstration, it added.
About ten demonstrators were seriously injured in clashes with police and Saleh’s supporters, the Xinhua news agency stated, quoting witnesses.
Riot police blocked the street leading to the Egyptian embassy before the demonstrators arrived, RIA Novosti quoted the Yemen Post newspaper as stating.
Mass protests, the first large-scale public challenge to President Ali Abdullah Saleh in his 32-year rule, broke out in Yemen last week, apparently inspired by the recent wave of protests in the African country Tunisia.
On Thursday, tens of thousands of people had taken to the streets in Sanaa, demanding President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down.
Saleh announced last Sunday that he would resign after his second presidential term expires in 2013.
In Egypt, about 100 people have been killed and dozens were injured as police dispersed anti-government protests in capital city Cairo and other cities.
Demonstrations continued for the fifth day Saturday in the north African country, with crowds of tens of thousands demanding Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to step down after three decades in power.
