NEW DELHI - Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy called on Congress chief Sonia Gandhi Wednesday, a day before Home Minister P. Chidambaram is scheduled to meet state leaders for talks on the statehood demand for the Telangana region.

Reddy met Gandhi at her 10, Janpath residence here and the meeting lasted an hour, sources said, adding the chief minister apprised the Congress president of the political situation in the state due to the Telangana demand.

The home minister during his meeting - which is being boycotted by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party - will share with state politicians the contents of the Justice B.N. Srikrishna Committee report that has looked into the pros and cons of a separate Telangana state.

The chief minister also apprised Gandhi of the security situation in the state and measures taken to tackle any law and order situation ahead of the crucial meeting on the issue that has triggered violence in the past.
