GUWAHATI - Congress party general secretary Digvijay Singh Monday took on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying it doesn’t have “the guts” to take action against its own party leaders involved in corruption.

Whenever there was any charge of corruption or we felt there was lack of transparency, like in the telecom licensing issue, we asked our minister to resign (A. Raja as communications minister), but the BJP even after so many scams doesn’t have the guts to take action against corruption tainted leaders, Singh told party workers in Assam’s main city of Guwahati.

Former BJP president Bangaru Laxman was caught on tape receiving cash, you also have the infamous episode of the Reddy brothers (of Karnataka). Then you have Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa allotting plots to his children. After all this, the BJP is unfazed and has initiated no action against its own leaders.

Singh arrived in Guwahati on a two-day visit to work out the party strategy for assembly elections in Assam due in about three to four months’ time. Singh was recently appointed Congress party in-charge for the Assam polls.

Whenever there was any finger pointed towards us, or corruption charges like the Commonwealth Games or the telecom scam, we have vested the responsibility for investigations to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), Singh said.

The BJP should emphasize more on transparency rather then simply accusing others.

Singh warned party leaders in Assam of action if anyone was found indulging in anti-party activities.

Indiscipline shall not be tolerated at any cost and we want all Congress workers to be united and face the assembly elections, Singh said.

Action shall be taken against anyone found indulging in anti-party activities.

Singh did not interact with the media, though they were allowed to attend the party workers’ meeting.
