NEW DELHI - Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) women’s wing Friday protested near the American embassy over the frisking of Indian Ambassador Meera Shankar at an airport in the US.

The protest was organised by the BJP Mahila Morcha. Addressing the protest, Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta demanded the American government should immediately apologise to Shankar and the Indian government and promise that in future, no Indian will be misbehaved with.

On Dec 4, Shankar was subjected to a rigorous public “pat down” at the Jackson-Evers International Airport after a visit as a guest of the Mississippi State University. It was the second time in three months that the ambassador faced such screening.
