DMK will act against Raja if found guilty: Karunanidhi
By IANSWednesday, December 8, 2010
CHENNAI - Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief M. Karunanidhi Wednesday said the party will take action against former telecom minister A. Raja if he was found guilty in the 2G spectrum scam.
“We will not hesitate to take action if Raja is found guilty. However, till he is proved guilty, we will not let him down,” Karunanidhi told reporters here.
Asked about the searches at the residences of Raja by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Wednesday, the DMK chief termed it neither as a big issue and nor as an insult.
On the issue of joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the spectrum allocation scam as demanded by the opposition, Karunanidhi said the probe should cover the decisions taken by earlier governments as well.
Raja was forced to resign last month after the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) indicted him in the spectrum allocation scam and for causing losses estimated between Rs.58,000 crore ($12.8 billion) and Rs.1.76 lakh crore ($40 billion) to the exchequer.
He is alleged to have sold spectrum licenses at rates much lower than in the market.
The 2G spectrum saga has crippled parliament since Nov 10 as the opposition refuses to give up its demand for a parliamentary probe into the scam.
