CHENNAI - The Tamil Nadu government will take legal steps to fight for its share of Cauvery river waters, said Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi Thursday.

His comments follow reports that the Karnataka government has declined to accede to Tamil Nadu’s request for Cauvery water.

Karunanidhi said: “I don’t want to make any comment based on news reports. News reports in dailies and my comments may result in unnecessary difference of opinion between two states.”

He added: “We will argue and fight for our share of water that is legally due.”

To a query on whether he would write a letter to the prime minister, he said: “We have told Manmohan Singh in person. He knows there is a case in the Supreme Court.”
