4 candidates for RI gov. to meet in 1st TV debate
BRISTOL, R.I. — The four major candidates for Rhode Island governor will meet in their first televised debate of the general election.
The debate, co-sponsored by The Providence Journal and WPRI-TV, is scheduled to air for one hour on Wednesday at 7 p.m. After the televised portion, the debate will continue for 30 additional minutes on WPRI’s website.
Democratic General Treasurer Frank Caprio, independent former U.S. Sen. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY’-fee), Republican John Robitaille (ROH’-bi-teye) and Moderate Ken Block are vying to replace Republican Gov. Don Carcieri (ku-CHEER’-ee), who is term limited. Robitaille is a former top aide to Carcieri and Block is a businessman. Neither has held elected office.
The debate will be held at Roger Williams University in Bristol.
