Meira Kumar to attend Geneva meet

NEW DELHI - An Indian parliamentary delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will attend the 123rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting in Geneva from Monday, a statement said Sunday.

The delegation leaves for Switzerland Sunday night, said a parliament official.

The meeting will focus on preventing electoral violence and ensuring smooth transition of power, management of natural resources, agricultural production and demographic change and transparency and accountability in political party funding.

The delegation include Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan, parliamentarians S.S. Ahluwalia, Kirti Azad, Hassan Khan, Bhavana Gawali Patil, Annu Tandon and top officials, the statement said.

“Meira Kumar will be the lead speaker on the management of natural resources, agricultural production and demographic change (second standing committee), said the release.

The IPU is a non-government organisation established 110 years ago.
