Ex-reality TV star wins GOP race for Obey’s seat
MILWAUKEE — A former reality TV star will take on a Wisconsin state senator in November in the state’s most hotly contested congressional race.
Republican Sean Duffy and Democrat Julie Lassa both easily beat lesser-known opponents in primaries Tuesday.
They’ll now compete for the seat being vacated by Democratic Congressman David Obey, who has represented Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District since 1969.
Duffy starred in the MTV series “The Real World: Boston” in 1997 and served as the Ashland County district attorney. He beat farmer Dan Mielke.
Lassa, a state senator from Stevens Point, defeated businessman Don Raihala.
Both national parties are closely watching the race with control of Congress at stake.
