Grocery group spends $930K lobbying in 2Q

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Grocery Manufacturers Association spent $930,000 in the second quarter to lobby on food safety, advertising and other business issues, according to a recent disclosure report.

That is down from the $1 million spend in the first quarter by the trade group — whose members include major food companies such as ConAgra Foods Inc. and Hormel Foods Corp.

In addition to Congress, the group lobbied the Federal Trade Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Executive Office of the President and FDA during the April through June quarter, according to the report filed July 9 with the House clerk’s office.
