Lebanese PM holds talks with Syrian leader
DAMASCUS, Syria — Syria’s official news agency says President Bashar Assad is holding talks with Lebanese prime minister on regional affairs.
Saad Hariri’s visit on Tuesday comes a month after Israeli President Shimon Peres accused Syria of providing Lebanon’s Hezbollah with Scud missiles. Syria and Hariri denied the accusation.
It’s Hariri’s second visit to Syria since relations with Damascus witnessed a remarkable thaw after nearly five-year rupture triggered off by the assassination of his father, former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Many Lebanese blamed his death on Syria, a charge Damascus has repeatedly denied.
The Lebanese leader also plans to meet with President Barack Obama at the White House next week in his first official visit to Washington.
