Manmohan Singh’s positive steps being marred by India’s internal politics: Qureshi

MULTAN - Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s positive steps in reducing heightened tension between India and Pakistan is being marred by internal politics and pressure.
Interacting with media persons on the sidelines of a convocation ceremony of the Bahauddin Zakariya University here, Qureshi hailed Dr.Singh’s approach towards resolving long pending issues between the two neighbours, and added that Indian leaders should back his positive thinking.
“Singh knows the region and its economic requirements. It is our desire that political forces should support his positive thinking to resolve issues between Pakistan and India,” Qureshi said.
Responding to a question regarding the river water sharing issues between India and Pakistan, he said Pakistan was taking all possible steps in order to resolve the problem.
Qureshi said that Islamabad has also suggested an Indus Water Treaty-like agreement with Kabul to prevent any water sharing controversy in future.
When asked as to how sees the Indian leadership’ recent trip to Saudi Arabia, Qureshi said Pakistan would have no objections if Saudi Arabia plays a role in bridging the gulf between New Delhi and Islamabad.
“Pakistan has no objections, rather would be happy, if Saudi Arabia plays a role in resolving issues between Pakistan and India,” The Daily Times quoted Qureshi, as saying.
He said that the United States also wants that the stalled composite dialogue between India and Pakistan to resume
“US understands Pakistan will be more focused on tackling terrorism when it has no worries on its eastern border with India, that is why it desires that Pakistan and India should resume the composite dialogue,” Qureshi said. (ANI)
