Sarkozy to submit bill banning Islamic face veils
PARIS — France’s government spokesman says French President Nicolas Sarkozy will submit legislation to parliament on banning Islamic veils that fully cover a woman’s face and body.
Spokesman Luc Chatel says Sarkozy decided the government should submit a bill for a general ban on such veils “in all public places.”
Sarkozy has said such outfits oppress women and are “not welcome” in France. This would be his first action toward an outright ban.
