Iran assembly complains over Obama nuclear policy
TEHRAN, Iran — Iranian lawmakers have called on the government to file a complaint with the UN after President Barack Obama excepted Iran from a pledge not to use nuclear weapons against countries not possessing them.
The official IRNA news agency say 222 lawmakers signed the petition, saying Obama exclusion of Iran from the pledge was a “threat to world peace and security.”
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final say on all state matters, also said Obama’s threatening language is proof that the U.S. cannot be trusted.
Obama announced Tuesday America’s new nuclear strategy, including a vow not to use nuclear weapons against countries that do not have them.
Iran, however, was pointedly excepted from that pledge, along with North Korea.
