Former Himachal chief minister Parmar’s widow dead

SHIMLA - Satyawati Parmar, the widow of Himachal Pradesh’s first chief minister late Yashwant Singh Parmar, died after a protracted illness here, a family member said Wednesday. She was 90.

Satyawati died at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital last (Tuesday) evening. She was admitted to the hospital Monday after her condition deteriorated, a family member said. She was cremated Wednesday.

Satyawati, Rajya Sabha member from 1968 to 1974, was the second wife of Parmar, a veteran Congress leader and four-time chief minister of the state. Parmar died in 1980.
